Under the Financial Services Act 1986 the difference between Tied Agents or Company Representatives and Independent Financial Advisers is clarified.

Tied Agents or Company Representatives may advise on and offer only the products of the company they represent.

Independent Financial Advisers (IFAs) act on your behalf and in your interests, and not those of any particular Product Provider. They will access and search a range of companies and products offering you the most suitable advice to match your needs. The best advice is often independent advice.

For your added peace of mind neither DBS Financial Management PLC nor its IFAs are authorised to handle client money. All clients receive our Standard Terms of Business letter before any advice is given. These Terms of Business are governed and shall be construed in accordance with English Law and the parties shall submit to exclusive jurisdiction of the English courts.

Giving 'Best Advice' in relation to overseas clients can be difficult because the personal circumstances of the client will be governed by local cultural factors and laws which our members are unlikely to be acquainted with in great detail. Overseas clients should therefore satisfy themselves with regard to the effect local customs and laws have on any advice given. We will not engage in any transaction or offer any advice or assistance with USA or Canadian clients or prospective clients.

DBS Financial Management PLC is regulated by the Personal Investment Authority (PIA).

PIA and the other regulators under the Financial Services Act 1986 do not regulate mortgages, general insurance, some healthcare, some long term care and some term assurance policies.
