110th Oakwood, Ockley & Forest Green Flower Show

The Flower Show has spanned a period of over 110 years and for almost every year since 1893, local people have come together to display and enjoy the products of their labours. The show has continued every year, apart from a gap of few years during WWII.

This year we will be celebrating our 110th Show !

It is not just flowers that we celebrate! The event covers a lovely, traditional show of vegetables, flowers, eggs, jams, baking plus crafts, painting, photography etc.

There are lots of opportunities for children to take part in – making a garden-on-a-plate, colouring, painting, and cooking.

That is just in the marquee. Outside, usually in the sunshine, there is all the fun of a village fete – side shows, cake stands, cream teas, dog show, barbeque, bric-a-brac, coconut shy, Punch and Judy, craft demonstrations, live animals plus children’s races. (There are races for grownups too!)

At the end of the day, any donated exhibits are auctioned off – a popular and lively end to the Show.

All-in-all it is a perfect summer’s day out (only once a year, I am afraid).

The show is run entirely by volunteers (and a few pressed men) on a non-profit making basis.

Have a look at the photographs and book the date in your diary – the second Saturday in August - that is the 9th of August in 2008. It is held on the Oakwood Hill cricket ground directly opposite a lovely English Pub, the Punchbowl.

Come along and join the fun – the Show starts at 1 p.m. although many people come earlier.
