Commissioning The Pool in Spring

1. Remove debris cover and top up pool to correct level
2. Remove debris from the pool with leaf drag net
3. Replace all drain plugs in heater, filter, pump etc.
4. Remove floating canisters from pool water
5. Prime pump and start filter pump - Run pump to waste until water is clean - Stop pump - Turn multiport to backwash and start pump until water is clear - Stop pump - Turn multiport to rinse, start pump and run for 20 -30 seconds - Stop pump - Turn multiport to 'filter'
6.Following the winter there is usually an accumulation of dust and debris on the pool bottom. Select 'waste' on multiport and prepare pool vacuum. Vacuum pool - discharge dust & debris to waste. (Pool water will drop - top up as necessary).
7. Check pH level of water and adjust as necessary
8. Disinfect - Follow manufacturer's instructions.
9. Switch on pool heater - (if necessary)

Pump Priming
Start of season priming - expect difficulties!

1. Ensure pool is full
2. Close all valves on suction side of the pump
3. Set multiport at 'closed'
4. Remove top of coarse strainer and fill to the top with water. Lubricate 'O' ring - Secure top firmly - Set multiport to 'filter'
5. Switch on pump and immediately open the main drain valve. The pump will start pumping after a minute or two and the pressure gauge will rise. If this has not happened after 2 minutes, switch off and repeat the procedure.

When the filter is operating satisfactorily with the main drain valve open - open the skimmer valve SLOWLY.

If the pressure gauge drops immediately to zero
- Close the skimmer valve until the pressure has risen to normal and reopen gradually. Repeat until the gauge is constant with both valves fully open.

If the pump will not prime, it is possible there is an air leak infront of the pump:
- Check the top of the coarse strainer is sealed correctly
- Check the socket union between the pump & the valves are tight
- Check the rubber gasket has been replaced in the socket union

Difficulties priming older pumps may mean there is a leak between the
pump and pump motor.
A worn pump seal will suck in air and make priming difficult and needs an engineer's attention.

Trouble Shooting

1.Electric motor will not start
Check fuse - if motor hums the impeller may be jammed.
Turn off electrical supply and call (01603) 417472

2. Pump will not prime
This is usually caused by air being sucked into the system.
Check the top of the coarse strainer is clean and a tight fit.
Check there is sufficient water in the pool and check pump seal for leakage.

3. Pressure gauge is abnormally low
Check that both suction and skimmer valves are open.
Check that skimmer and pump strainer basket are clean.

4. Pressure gauge is abnormally high.
Check valves on the return line are open.
Backwash filter - check filter is not blocked with calcium or other deposits.

5. Air bubbles continually bowing into pool through inlet fitting.
Air is being sucked into the system.
Check water level in pool. Check top of coarse strainer. If these are correct the cause may be a faulty joint or gate valve on the suction side
of the pump. Bubbles will always be blown into the pool after commencement of filtering/after backwashing, but these should disappear after 5-10 minutes.

6. Water is cloudy, not crystal clear.
Check pH and disinfectant level. (Check filter sand doesn't need changing.) Filter continuously until clear, using a flocculent if necessary.

7. Walls and floor are slippery.
Algae is forming. Check pH and disinfectant level and follow chemical manufacturer's recommendations for algae treatment.
