We Believe in The Healing Influence of Artwork

I’ve managed to get some text together for you that hopefully you can work with a little.

I’ve also added some information about the Prestigious Print

The artist’s talk on the 24th.
Tickets cost £9 with all monies going to the charity.

The arts within healthcare is essential, as you reiterated to me explaining your personal connection, and slowly we, as an organisation, are making positive changes to educating people as to how important the arts are within both our culture and within the healing environment.

Your input helps our work become even more impacting.

Art in Healthcare

We are a small, national charity that was set up as Paintings in Hospitals Scotland in 1991 and became Art in Healthcare in 2005.

It began as a sister charity of the national Paintings in Hospitals, in order to provide works of arts of high quality by artists, both established and emerging, to hang in hospitals and healthcare buildings throughout Scotland.

1300 works of art
over 850 works in 60 hospitals and healthcare units across the whole of Scotland.

Almost 20 years later we now have a collection of over 1300 works of art, which we offer to healthcare environments for a nominal fee. We currently have over 850 works on display in 60 hospitals and healthcare units across the whole of Scotland.

At Art in Healthcare we believe in the healing influence of artwork.

We are particularly interested in how the promotion of health and wellbeing can be achieved in healthcare’s physical environment and we do this through a curated picture rental scheme that gives hospitals affordable access to a prestigious collection of original Scottish artworks.

We work to raise awareness about the benefits of art to the health of the individual and in healthcare settings by running events and tours of artistic and health-related spaces,
  • holding lectures,
  • giving talks,
  • helping to fund artists’ projects in hospitals and
  • building links between artists and healthcare organisations.

    Quotes:

“Works from our collection are seen by tens of thousands of people every year. We know that art can enhance the healing process and can help people who may be feeling anxious. We hope that our efforts make healthcare buildings a better place for patients, visitors and staff.” ... Trevor Jones Assistant Director, AiH

“It’s a philosophy about caring, and caring has a lot of different facets to it. Everybody’s got pictures on their walls at home, so why should we offer some of the most compromised people in society bare walls?” ... Dr. Rajan Madhok Head of Rheumatology, Glasgow Royal Infirmary

“I have been visiting my mother in the Infirmary every day for the past week and I have found the pictures—particularly Wilhelmina Barns-Graham

—very comforting and encouraging. Pictures like these make a big difference to visitors’ and patients’ experience of the Infirmary. Thank you and keep up the good work.” ... Edward Kellow

Trevor Jones, Assistant Director for Art in Healthcare

Originally from Canada, I set out in 1996 with a backpack and a love for adventure. Three years and four continents later I found myself in Scotland... and I still haven't quite managed to make it home yet.

In 2008 I graduated from Edinburgh University with an MA (Hons) Fine Art in Drawing and Painting and I now manage my time between painting and exhibiting, working for the charity Art in Healthcare, and teaching at Leith School of Art.
