Hansel Foundation is setting up for another grand exhibition at Lochgreen House Hotel, Troon - to raise money for their Therapeutic Garden Project within the Broadmeadows Estate at Symington. ''It'll cost up to £800,000 to extend and refurbish the property - and we still need to secure £300,000 before the project can go ahead,'' said Sheila McLean - member of the fund raising team.

Hansel Foundation of Symington, Ayrshire was founded in 1962. Their Therapeutic Garden Project, to be known as OUR SPACE will provide a new, innovative and energetic service to benefit people with varying disabilities, including...
  • those with a learning disability,
  • physical disability,
  • mental health issues,
  • an acquired brain damage,
  • recovering from stroke and heart disease,
  • blind and partially sighted
  • and those in the early stages of dementia.
Friendship

OUR SPACE will provide an opportunity to people of all ages to engage in regular gardening activities in a communal atmosphere.

OUR SPACE will not only offer opportunities for therapeutic activity, in a wide range of ways - it will also offer a positive opportunity to break down barriers between disabled groups.

Intrinsic to the success of OUR SPACE project is Hansel's understanding of how important friendships are to us all.

OUR SPACE aims to introduce new opportunities for people to make a valued contribution in others’ lives, as well as provide appropriate levels of support in all activities offered in a very person centred way ... and with every opportunity to forge and/or maintain interdependent friendships that will spill out into peoples wider lives.

The new service at Hansel will support people to sustain and develop their friendships in a setting that is busy, positive and productive – and of course enjoyable.

A core goal of Hansel is to empower people and introduce them to new friends and associations - and to encourage mutual involvement and support ... which is a large part of the work that is done at Hansel.

Some interesting measures for 2010

Hansel is introducing some interesting measures to make things run more smoothly this year.

From week commencing 5th April, you'll be able to purchase a glossy catalogue at £10 each - for reference and keep-sake. And if you prefer a Priority-Purchase Assurance you can also purchase a Red-dot for another £10 to secure the painting you choice ... subject to availability of course.

This year all artists have been given same size board measuring 8 x 8 inches. As in previous years' exhibitions, all paintings from established will be framed.

All paintings are offered at descending price scale after the first 2 days so that...

Framed paintings by established artists are priced at
  • £300 on Monday and Tuesday
  • £250 on Wednesday
  • £200 on Thursday
Unframed paintings by amateur artists are priced at
  • £100 for Monday and Tuesday
  • reducing to £75 on Wednesday
  • and down again to £50 on Thursday.
Positive public response

''The response from the general public throughout the week of exhibtion has always been encouraging - and feedback all positive'' said Sheila McLean.

As in the past, a selection of unsold amateur paintings will be framed and used as prizes at other Hansel events. The remainder may be gifted to service users.

Unsold paintings from Established artists are also used as prizes for other Hansel fund raising events - and artists are advised that their painting would not be sold for less than the ticket price of the last day of the exhibition.

''We thank all artists who generously donate paintings to our exhibitions - this is a wonderful opportunity for people to help raise funds for Hansel and own a piece of original work of art as they do so'' said Sheila McLean.

The exhibition is sponsored by Costley & Costler Hoteliers Ltd.
Open April 20 - 22, 2010
at Lochgreen House Hotel, Troon.
