Blue Tit by Anne Dye

Anne's interest in batik dates from a short crafts course for youth group leaders she attended twenty-three years ago in Inverness. She then attended a series of batik courses at West Dean College near Chichester which introduced her to a whole range of resist techniques on cotton, silk and paper.

Yvonne MacDougall
Perth

Yvonne MacDougall was born and lives in Perth. She was educated in Edinburgh where she studied Drawing and Painting at Edinburgh College of Art. She then completed a post-graduate course in teacher training at Moray House College of Education after which she taught in secondary education for two years.

Irises by Yvonne MacDougall

After marrying, Yvonne moved to London where she continued to teach until her two children were born. During the early years of family life Yvonne gradually found more time to paint, began to exhibit her work, and developed an interest in batik. She was introduced to batik by Sonia King, an inspirational tutor who took classes in Greenwich. Yvonne began a life-long fascination for batik as a medium for a painter and tutored in adult education before the family returned to live in Perth.

Yvonne creates large-scale batik paintings. The dyes are painted onto the fabric in washes. This process of mixing and mingling fluid colour echoes the creative development of her watercolour paintings. She is inspired mainly by organic forms.

Yvonne paints full-time at her home in Perth. She exhibits regularly in Scottish galleries. Her batik paintings have been exhibited in the R.S.A. in Edinburgh, in London and at the Pitlochry Festival Theatre. She is now preparing for an exhibition of paintings in June on the theme of Changing Seasons.
