Mike Shepley takes a worm eye-view of Burj Khalifa...
The Tallest Building In The World.

So what has Burj Khalifa in Dubai got to do with Scottish art?

The answer lies in the talent of Scottish artist Mike Shepley DA(Edin), Dip TP and member of Scottish Art Circle.

Mike Shepley, who is currently in Dubai has recently covered the spectacular opening of Burj Khalifa - at 828 metres, the tallest building in the world ... BY MILES!

He has since been working on a painting, due for completion for an exhibition in
Abu Dhabi in February 2010. The painting is based on the superb fireworks, water fountains and laser show at the recent inauguration of Burj Khalifa in Dubai on January 4th.
''Potentially there were 828 surreal paintings created in the few short minutes it took to light up the skies here on that night - watched in awe by the world,'' Mike said, inspired by the metric height of that impressive building towering above him. ''I will re-create just a few images which remain clearly in my mind's eye,'' he promised.

But it's not just the invitation to this forthcoming prestigeous exhibition in the capital city of the Emirates that brings honor to Scottish art through this Edinburgh-born artist. It's also owing to Mike's other visual art talent, lesser known to fellow members of his Scottish Art Circle ... because Mike is also a documentary film maker. In the next few minutes you'll get an insight into Shepley's artistic mind - how he zigs when most are zagging.

As you'd expect, in most coverage of the inauguration of Burj Khalifa, the bulk of film and video work presented by the media was taken in daylight - rightly enough to give clear views of architectural and engineering wonder of the cross-national colaboration that brought us this magnifiscent building. But not so with Mike Shepley...

For his short dedications Mike dares to film under the cover of darkness ... not to hide - but to expose in two short videos, a dramatic ballet of colours depicted in fireworks, water fountains and laser show from Right Under the Tower. Watch and enjoy these two short videos on YouTube. Follow the links below - it'll only take a minutes of your time.
