About Ali Abubakar

Ali Abubakar was born in Zanzibar. He began painting in 1988 and enjoys painting in both acrylic and oil paint, although he is earning a reputation for his oil pastels. Oil pastels are often thought of as a difficult medium to work in, however, Ali has managed to tame the medium and now produces wonderfully vibrant work.

He uses oil pastels on black background which helps the brightness and strength of colour to stand out.

For a long time Ali has been especially interested in capturing Scottish scenes... landscapes and seascapes as subject matter. He has also produced a great number of flower paintings...and more recently he has started exploring images of animals.

He has work in private collections in U.K., Canada, U.S.A., Australia, U.A.E, and Russia as a result of his solo exhibitions in Glasgow.

From mid 80's to late 1996 Ali managed Interdec Gallery in Glasgow... showing works by Scottish artists and artists from developing countries. He holds a strong personal belief about art in that it should be made more accessible to all and not just to the privileged few. That really was the motto for his gallery-- We should ethically educate people to enjoy and own works of art.

Ali now paints from home using art as a therapeutic aid.
